Blaxploitation cinema is an often overlooked but integral slice of American filmmaking that emerged in the 1970s. Starting with Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, it ushered in a new era of filmmaking that exposed the general public to another culture. Despite backlash behind portraying stereotypical criminal roles, the movement was also praised for finally introducing black characters as heroes. While blaxploitation cinema was primarily action and drama oriented, there was also a small uprising of blaxploitation horror films, and today we're looking at eight of the best and most influential films of the 1970s.

These are the kind of movies that could never be palatable by the faint of heart. You will see no Saws or Hostels on this list because, frankly, that's bush league. The following movies hit hard and they never let up, for various reasons.

In 1988, Hong Kong introduced the Category rating system, with the most horrific of subject matter falling under Category III, meaning: No persons younger than 18 years of age are permitted to rent, purchase, or watch this film in the cinema. Nothing new as most places have some sort of rating system, but this one was strict and rigorously enforced. However, from this, some of the gnarliest horror movies ever made came from this system
Movie adaptations of video games are notoriously awful with very few exceptions. In fact if I were to make a list of the best horror video game movie adaptations it would likely just be Silent Hill ten times. But that said, I still believe in the possibility of the occasional great adaptation.
Microwave ovens can heat up your food pretty fast. But, in most cases, the food may taste shittier than if you have the time/patience to use a regular oven. Microwaves heat food through radiation, which can also explode a person's head if one can figure out how to do it right.
Naturally one always attributes body horror to David Cronenberg, and rightfully so. He may not have been the first but he sure did set the standard. But lately, over the last five years in particular, there has been quite the explosion of more female oriented body horror. And many really pushed the envelope. Something I can appreciate. So let's take a look at eight notable features.
Happy 4th Of July Horror fans!!! This week here at Beyond The Void we bring you a bonus list. And it's America's birthday, so this extra list of the week will be about fireworks!!! In no particular order
Killers in Horror movies tend to have decent-sized, to rather large-sized weapons. Some have invisible weapons, such as magic or voodoo. In squirmier death scenes, a big, bloody job can be completed with the smallest of implements. And that brings me to the..
Now, for this list, the jaw had to be ripped off. An after-the-fact zombie with its tongue dangling, or that lady from "The Mist" tv show doesn't count. This is bloody, good times and we're rippin' off jaws!!! (And I don't mean making a bad shark movie.)
If a fire gets too out of hand, then obviously it's a job for firefighters but what about those who have other plans for fire safety? LoveGore lists his best.
